My journey with Body Stress Release (BSR) began in the mid-1990s in Noordhoek, Cape Town. At the time, I was working in the IT world as a Microsoft Consultant—an exciting new role that came with the launch of Windows NT for businesses. This breakthrough created a lot of buzz, especially in the banking, insurance, and petroleum industries, and brought with it quite a bit of pressure on us as technical experts.

Like many, I found myself juggling long working hours (including evenings, weekends, and public holidays), studying, navigating some personal challenges, and raising a young family—all of which began to take a real toll. Eventually, the stress started showing up in my body. I developed serious neck pain, limited movement, constant headaches, and pain that ran from my collarbone down to my fingers. At times, even picking up a pencil was incredibly painful. On top of that, I wasn’t sleeping well, so rest and recovery felt out of reach.

A good friend and colleague recommended I try Body Stress Release after finding relief from their own neck and back problems. Curious and hopeful, I booked my first session—and I’m so glad I did. Right after that initial appointment, I felt a noticeable improvement: my neck moved more freely, and the pain and tingling in my arm and fingers began to ease. Over the next few months, the neck issues completely disappeared, and even the wrist problems I’d had since my teens improved dramatically. I felt lighter, clearer in my thinking, and more capable of handling stress—something even my colleagues picked up on.

After more than 30 years in IT, I decided it was time for a change. I completed my BSR training in the Western Cape, and in 2020, I took a six-month sabbatical to make the leap into full-time practice. It’s been one of the most rewarding decisions of my life. What I love about BSR is that the technique is gentle, structured, and consistent—no matter the age or background of the person. Every body responds in its own way, depending on the type of stress and how long it’s been held. Children and babies, in particular, often respond really quickly, which is always a joy to see.

I started my practice in Cape Town, but have since relocated to Delft in the Netherlands, where I’ve taken over Renee Heetland’s practice. I work with clients of all ages—from newborns to seniors. My approach is always collaborative, and my goal is to support each person in unlocking their body’s natural ability to heal and feel better.

To help maintain the benefits and keep stress from building up again, I recommend having a BSR session every 4 to 8 weeks. Just like your car needs regular maintenance to run smoothly, your body does too.
